Time well spent

September 23, 2011

This week has seriously dragged by, and I am so glad that the weekend is finally here! This evening I’m off to the Shunam in Hassocks to re-live some fond memories for a friend’s birthday. The little yellow restaurant was our go-to place for some cheap eats when we were 16, 17, 18… 10 years later we thought we would make a return trip for some spicy goodness and to celebrate a special friend’s birthday. Tomorrow I’m helping another friend move out of Brighton, which I’m really sad about but she’s not moving too far away so I suppose I can let her go. Then on Sunday I think I will try to catch up on sleep, and pop down to Aloka, who are putting on a little event as part of the Brighton Food Festival. All day they will be offering free samples of their ice cream! Packed full of super healthy vegan ingredients, I’m looking forward to sampling what they have to offer.

Aloka is a brilliant mix of a healthy cafe, rejuvenating spa, an exclusively raw restaurant and a shop which offers a wide range of both edible and indulgent products! During the day the cafe offers a serve-yourself buffet which is costed by weight, and in the evening the menu boasts vegan cheeses, fresh roasted vegetables, risotto and salads, amongst other positive specialities. I’m always tempted by the options at the spa, maybe I will treat myself to a little something when payday comes around!

There are a few other events dotted around Brighton as the Food Festival draws to a close, so make sure you try and squeeze in as much local, fresh and exciting produce as you can before the end of the month!

Here’s a little picture of my favourite autumn jumper; I bought it last season as the cold started to really set in, and I’m still completely in love with it. I love the way the clasps reference the origins of the design and the hand-made feel to it.

Jumper: River Island, £40.
Aloka: 14 East Street, Brighton, BN1 1HP, 01273 823178.
