London pt II – The Shopping!

March 14, 2012

Once we got to the hotel and started unpacking, we decided to take in the view from our hotel room. Oh, is that scaffolding outside our window? No – that would be VICTORIA STATION. Ok, so we can see directly into the station from our window. It’s not the best view in the world, but we were only staying for one night so it’s not so bad. A few minutes later….”THE 17.53 TO MILTON KEYNES WILL  BE LEAVING FROM PLATFORM 12″.

Seriously?

It’s ok. I’m sure we’ll get used to it. I’m sure it’ll be funny. I’m sure it won’t be ear-shattering at 5am.

“WOULD PASSENGER MR BROWN PLEASE COME TO THE TICKET OFFICE. MR BROWN TO THE TICKET OFFICE!”

Ok, back to reception we went. Why is there even a room with a view of the station, situated directly under the speakers?! Literally bonkers. Anyway, they were super nice and switched us to another room straight away – and we even got a flippin’ upgrade! Hello bigger room, extra sofa and larger bathroom! We got dressed up and headed over to Hammersmith to have dinner at The Gate. It’s a cute layout, situated as part of a church hall, but as soon as you step into the actual restaurant there is a great ambience and friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately we were seated in the front row, and felt a little too exposed. I couldn’t take any photographs of the meal because the staff were almost watching over us, which was a shame. My food was fantastic! For starters I ordered courgette flowers, which came with a fabulous garlic aioli, and for main I had the aubergine teriyaki. Again, faultless. The aubergine was sliced lengthways and coated in breadcrumbs, and served on a bed of noodles. Mr T’s meal wasn’t so nice, I’m afraid: wasabi potato cakes and a pea risotto that lacked any real flavour or excitement. I would love to go again, but with the vegan options already limited, and half of those not particularly nice, it would be a slightly uneventful return trip!

The next morning I dragged Mr T out of bed to hit the shops (hopefully this outing would be more enjoyable than the last attempt…!). After he had picked up a breakfast bagel we headed over to the Westfield Centre (White City)  for a spot of shopping. I didn’t really find anything clothing-wise, which was a shame, but I did pick up a few things from Paperchase! I can’t resist their cute little things, and always end up buying at least one thing when I go to their stores. Here’s a run down of my weekend purchases:

Some random and delicious snacks from M&S: Baked edamame beans!

My two favourite things from Whole Foods! Clif Chocolate Chip bar, and Peanut Butter & Co, Smoooth.

Some super random but cute things that I bought in Tiger – I love this store! Look at the crazy stickers!

The things that I bought from Paperchase. Some Easter cards, cute tape and a tote bag.

After we had our fill of the shops we went to the cinema to watch The Muppets Movie! It was so cute, and I love that the two main characters were also celebrating their 10 year anniversary – what a strange coincidence! It’s such a good film, I highly recommend it. Plus it had two characters from The Office (US) in it!!

I love Tiger! Aren’t those dark choc rice cakes to die for – I can’t find them anywhere else but my nearest Tiger is in Hounslow (yeuch) so I rarely go! Glad you had a nice weekend in London :)
