Crafting, Coffee and Ella Fitzgerald

I popped into town on Monday morning and bought a few bits and pieces to start being a bit more creative with. Piles of fabric, cute card, ribbon and glue. I made a big mug of coffee, opened Spotify on some gorgeous vintage tunes and started making.

I made paperbagbook. A small booklet which summarises things which I used to love and which I love now.

Bones.
I used to fill sketchbooks full of drawings, paintings, etchings and prints of bones. I love drawing them, sculpting them, working with them. I love their surface and what they symbolise.

I made this print a couple of years ago. It was part of a series of etchings that I made using lard – I carved the plate with deep, wide lines and left it in the acid much longer than you usually would; around 45 minutes. Then I pushed lard into the spaces which were created and printed as usual. The material bled into the paper and would only live for around 2 years before degrading.

Spirograph.
I have always loved spirographs; this is one of my favourite photographs. It’s of me and my Great Grandmother, playing with a massive spirograph. I stitched one into the book with my sewing machine.

Something simple just to start with. A tiny sketchbook. I’m pretty sure I’m going to make more of these.

I also made some bunting for a friend’s birthday present. She’s just moved into a new flat with her boyfriend, so I thought this could be a little house warming gift, too. The other pieces were heart-shaped.

It felt so nice to be spending some time with paper, fabric and stitching. I must remember to do this more often.

I used to love spirographs too! I really ought to try and be more creative in practical terms (I kind of see my blog as my main creative outlet now) as I used to love making things, drawing and scrap booking :-)

It was so relaxing and enjoyable, felt really good to be back creating things, even if they are small.
