You were an expert

The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do.

Quite a mouthful, which is the first indication of exactly how complicated, tightly bound and exhausting this album is. With Apple’s past so entwined and painfully tangled with her present, the words and music spark reminders of memories and unforgettable’s. A similar sound to previous albums, The Idler Wheel has crashing piano parts, with raw vocals layered with drums and more than an armful of bizarre instruments which battle their way through the music to give it structure and bite.

Apple uses her voice to drive and guide the music, with a powerful strength behind her vocals. She commands the music, completely. I have always had a soft spot for girls with pianos, and this is just perfection with the addiction of referenced, pounding drums and a sprinkling of cymbals and percussion.

I don’t cry when I’m sad anymore.
How can I ask anyone to love me?

You can listen to the full album here, which is released on June 19th.
