World Vegan Pizza Day

June 30, 2012

Oh, Pizza. How I love thee? Let me count the ways…

There’s something so perfect about the combination of dough, sweet sauce, piles of veggies and – if you’re lucky! – some vegan cheese and/or meats! I bet you’re hungry for pizza now, right? Well the good news is that today is World Vegan Pizza Day! Perfect timing for you to give in to your cravings and go wild for some pizza. Here’s a round up of where you could order from:

If you’re lucky enough to be living in Brighton – or fancy a weekend away, you must try Pizzaface! Not only do they offer vegan cheese, every Monday and Tuesday they also run Vegan Specials which include sour cream, sausage, bacon, chorizo and more. Grab a cheesy garlic bread on the side and a tub of Booja Booja or locally produced Boho Gelato for afters!

Karma Free Pizza

If you’re London-based you could give Karma Free Pizza a call – the entirely vegetarian pizza shop offers vegan cheese, garlic bread and dough balls. You can see photographs here, on To Happy Vegans!

Mainstream Chains

Papa Johns‘ bases are vegan, so replace the mozzarella with extra veggies. You can also add a special garlic dip, buffalo dip or sweet chilli dip!
Pizzahut offer a Pan Pizza base which can have the cheese omitted, and on the side you can pick a portion of potato wedges, garden salad, bbq sauce, sweet chilli and tomato ketchup dips.
If you fancy being wined and dined, Pizza Express offer olives, almonds, rosemary pizza bread, dough balls (without the garlic butter, and with garlic oil instead) and rustica tomatoes for a starter. Any of the pizzas can be altered to suit you, simply ask for no cheese and add your favourite veggies instead. You can even have a raspberry sorbet for dessert!
At the time of writing Domino’s Pizza still don’t offer a vegan option, unfortunately.

Or you could give it a go yourself! We recently bought a pizza stone and are really pleased with the results so far. This pizza has vegan sausage, pepper, red onion, olives, jalapenos and Cheezly, with a home-made pizza sauce.

You could try this brilliant cheat, by using Warburton’s Square(ish) Wraps as a pizza base, and top with all your favourite veggies!

Or maybe make some calzone? These included pizza sauce, Cheezly, chorizo and basil.

Jus-Rol have brought out a brilliant pack which includes the dough for a pizza base and a portion of pizza sauce. Really simple and pretty tasty!

Most most of all, remember –

Happy World Vegan Pizza Day!

Delicious! We got some vegan pizza from Ms Cupcake on World Vegan Pizza day, but were also working on the Vegan Cheese episode of The Vegan Option, in which we serve our garden party guests a pizza with Canadian Daiya Shreds, English Redwoods Cheezly Super Melting, and Vegusto No-Moo Melty from Switzerland.
