Yours is the first face that I saw

July 12, 2012

I found a whole pile of polaroids that I had pretty much forgotten about, in one of our cupboards. Some were from years ago, and some taken more recently. It made me start to think about how much has changed, and how much time has passed between when I took these two polaroids. It made me think about where I am now, what makes me happy and what I am thankful for.

1. Coffee in the morning. Preferably in bed, with both of my boys to keep me company.
2. Date nights with Trout ♥ Booking the restaurant, getting dressed up, holding hands on the walk to the restaurant.
3. Giving people presents, sending care parcels and buying a drink for a friend. I like treating people.
4. Houmous. Just, sigh.
5. Making random, fun dinners and eating them sitting on the floor.
6. Reading blogs. I love them. Especially when you discover a new blog and read it from start to finish. And email yourself the URL so you don’t forget where you’ve read up to. Yep.
7. Spontaneous evenings where you’re not even sure you want to go out, and you end up having the best night ever <3
8. Baking cupcakes. And carrot cake. And cookies.
9. Going home and seeing my family, and my dogs. Getting a huge hug from Jake, and having a ridiculously excited Jasper launch himself at me.
10. Lazy days with Mr T. Especially when we ate pizza in bed because we were too hungover to leave the house.
11. Skype dates with Laia. I miss her so much, but being able to see her in her Barcelona flat, while I’m in my Brighton flat makes things a little easier.

I’m thankful for when I have awful stomach cramps and Trout cleans Rasputin’s litter tray out for me. I’m thankful when he comes home and he has bought me a little present. I’m thankful when I come home in my lunchbreak and Rasputin is asleep in his bed and looks up at me with his blinking eyes all loved up and cute. I’m thankful when I have food in my fridge and in my cupboards. I’m thankful for having the time to do my laundry and for having clean, fresh sheets on our bed. I’m thankful for Sundays spent watching movies. I’m thankful for coming home cold and wet from doing the soup-run and Trout has cooked an amazing dinner. I’m thankful for being able to make amazing vegan cakes. I’m thankful for the invention of vegan butter and for the sugar in the UK being vegan. I’m thankful when ripe bananas make my cakes rise. I’m thankful that I have a beautiful flat, with my best friend. I’m thankful that he makes exciting things happen, like roadtrips to America. I’m thankful that I can eat sweet and sour ‘chicken’ balls and it’s ok. I’m thankful for all the brilliant people I’ve met through blogging and twitter.

And you said, “this is the first day of my life
I’m glad I didn’t die before I met you
But now I don’t care I could go anywhere with you
And I’d probably be happy”

Great post! I think it is nice to remind yourself of what you are thankful for sometimes to make yourself appreciate what you have got.

Aww a happy list is such a great idea! I think I might create one too, and have it stuck up somewhere that I see everyday to make me happy :)
