Through shining eyes and smiling faces, we all sing along

August 4, 2012

On Friday I was thankfully feeling well enough to leave the sofa, and it was a good job too, as we had tickets to the Olympics!

Although I had quite a bit of nausea and a hint of a headache for most of the day, it was such a fantastic atmosphere and so exciting to watch the athletes in action! We had a 10am – 1pm ticket slot, which included mens & women’s 100m and 400m hurdles, high jump, hammer, shotput, and the steeplechase. It was incredible to see the bright, burning flame. Our seats were mid-way up the second tier, which was a pretty good view, but after a couple of hours Trout went for a wander to take some closer photographs, and called me to join him. We ended up standing on the ground floor and it was an amazing view!

Of course, being Great Britain, it rained! Quite heavily, but thankfully only briefly, and everyone was very British about it!

I have to say that the organisers should be so proud of themselves – the travel to the games was so effortless, straight-forward and complimented with plenty of smiling, friendly staff! We made it to the games in a relaxed 2 and a half hours – which sounds like quite a lot, but it didn’t feel like it! Baring in mind we were travelling from Brighton to East London, I was quite happy with this time.
After the games we travelled into Central London to one of our favourite restaurants – Mildreds – for some lunch. The food is so good here, I’m always really happy with my choices. I went for my classic favourite; the burger. I can’t help myself when it comes to seeing a vegan burger on a menu, I just have to order it! And when it comes with the most amazing basil mayo, I’m sold.

Trout had a healthy mezze, which was brilliant. I would also recommend the pie! After lunch we paid a visit to the (fairly) newly-opened Whole Foods nearby, and picked up some of my favourite goodies:

Clif bars (including a new Fudge flavour!), Luna bars, a Bounce ball and a bag of Lucy’s cookies – yum! Trout bought the best cupcake ever – a Cat & Cream cupcake in banana and butterscotch flavour. Amazing!

I hope that everyone has had a great week, and has some fun plans for the weekend! We’re off to a friends’ house for a party this evening, and visiting Trout’s family tomorrow (including his niece who has grown so much since we last visited!)

p.s. I’m putting together a blog post on our adventures at Kosher Kingdom – this place is unbelievable! Here is a sneaky peek of the many (many) cookies that we bought…!

Sounds like such a fun day! The burger looks amazing and so does the cupcake.
Hey, I wondered – have you guys been both vegan when you met or did one of you decided to change to this lifestyle first?

I was vegetarian when we met and Trout ate meat – around a year after we got together he went vegetarian, and then I think 3 years after that I went vegan, and 6 months later he went vegan :)

Thats so nice to hear. So there is still some hope for my meatloving boyfriend (who is snoring next to me right now) ;).

Haha you can’t force them, but I know I’m really lucky to have a vegan partner – it makes things much easier!!

I would never try to. I am rolling with “he accepts me the way I am thus I accept him the way he is”. But hey, nothing wrong with making delicious vegan meals to tempt him.

Exactly – and it doesn’t hurt to bake delicious vegan cakes to tempt him with, either!

So right :) he does love a good cupcake. And today I am making pear tart. The rainy weather also has some nice side effects.
