NYC to LA

September 7, 2012

So far our holiday has been pretty darn fantastic! I can’t believe how quickly these past 5 days have gone – at least I don’t have to begin trying to swallow the notion that eventually I’ll have to fly back to the UK and return to work, and all of the other things that make life function.

I’m so pleased that we managed to pack in pretty much everything that we planned to (except for the Peanut Butter & Co shop, which I completely forgot about) and we didn’t get to try Babycakes (but that can wait until LA). I’ve posted some photographs of New York (here and here) and will be putting together a round up of our favourite food spots shortly (or possibly once we’ve returned home, I haven’t decided yet). Safe to say that I am completely in love with New York City. If it wasn’t for our beautiful cat, our friends and families and the fact that the cost of living is so darn high, I would totally move here. Sigh.

Today we flew to LA, to embark on the next stage of our holiday. I was really sad to leave NYC but super excited to explore California! I sat next to a lady who had lived in New York her whole life, and we chatted about the differences between the UK and the US. She enforced the ‘don’t-ask-where-the-toilet-is’ rule (ask for the ladies restroom or the bathroom), which was very useful.

Actually, one thing that I am really looking forward to is getting home and scanning all of my polaroids in! My wonderful friend Laia gave me a polaroid camera for my birthday, so I have been snapping away and I just love the quality of the mini prints. So beautiful. I’ve also been filling my scrapbook up – my brilliant friend Aoife made me the most amazing scrapbook, with pointers and collages and inspiration boards for me to fill while I’m away. I’m having so much fun writing in it every night and sticking things into it!

I’ve picked up a ton of my favourite snack bars – Trout said I couldn’t buy any in NYC because we didn’t have space in our bags (or our bellies, to be fair). So I waited until about 45 minutes after we had arrived in LA and bought a chocolate peanut butter Clif Builder’s Bar, a peanut butter cookie Luna bar, and a peanut toffee buzz Clif bar. Unfortunately I got too excited and bought a chocolate peanut butter Luna protein bar without realising it had whey in (d’oh!). I haven’t scoffed them yet though, as I’m far too full from Cruzer Pizza. So good!

California *sigh* cannot wait to study there next year (bf and me plan to stay with his relatives in Oxnard, close to LA). Please, blow the Audrey Hepburn Star a kiss from me ;) !
What are you two planning to visit?

I wish we could get them as easily in the UK – you can literally walk into any newsagents and they have pretty much all of the flavours!
