Life at home, with Rasputin

September 25, 2012

Did I mention how happy I am to be home with my fur-baby?

Ever since I returned from our trip, I’ve had a clouded feeling of motivation. There are so many things that I want to achieve and complete before the end of the year, and I am hoping that this feeling will continue. I sat at my desk this morning, with a bowl of chocolate oats (a new creation that I threw together which totally made my morning) and saw the rain pouring outside as I worked through a mountain of emails. I didn’t have any dread or that sadness in your heart when you cannot believe that you have to go back to work (a common feeling that I’ve had in previous positions) – but at the same time I wasn’t super excited or inspired to return to my desk, and by 11am I was already counting down the hours.

I know that in the past I have said that setting myself goals hasn’t been the most productive idea for me, but I feel that now is the right time to set myself some new (and fun!) things for me to work towards.

In the short-term, I want to do the following:

  • Tidy up all of the loose ends in terms of things around the house – finalise all bills, frame the prints that have been waiting patiently for the right moment, organise my wardrobe and sort my finances out.
  • Re-design my blog. I want to have a proper layout designed, with my own url, and focus on creating beautiful entries.
  • Be creative everyday – even if this is as simple as taking a photograph, writing a sentence or making something crafty. I already do this to a certain extent, but I really want to push myself more.
  • Print more photographs and start putting together photograph albums and hanging collections of prints around the house.
  • Buy a tacky globe for the flat. I know this is a strange one, but I’m totally drawn to the kitsch factor and since travelling I would like to start pinning where we’ve been! (Trout will totally beat me, though.)
  • Try to be more productive before I leave for work – whether this is a job application form, some cleaning, reading, writing – I used to use my pre-work time much more productively!

By the end of the year, I want to do the following:

  • Find a new job. Sort of a given, seeing as I am being made redundant at the end of the year – but I am determined to find a new job as soon as possible, or at least have something lined up for the start of 2013.
  • Buy an old piece of furniture and renovate it. Even if it is just brightening it up with a fresh coat of paint, or replacing the drawer handles.
  • Make sloe gin again. And maybe another home-made alcoholic beverage? I loved the sloe gin that we made last year, and it was pretty simple to make!

Do you have anything that you would like to achieve before 2012 comes to an end?

Lovely, varied goals :-) We made sloe gin last christmas – yum! I’d love to renovate an old piece of furniture too. i’n fact, i’d love to do a little course in furniture renovation or jewellery making perhaps.

Oh my!! That is so cute! Are you going to keep one? We were given Rasputin by a friend whose cat had a litter and he couldn’t look after all of them x
