London to Brighton

November 26, 2012

Oh what a very wet weekend it was. I was really hoping that the weather would treat us better – it could have been worse though. On Saturday we spent the day in London, with the mission of finding Trout a very specific pair of spectacles. While we were in San Diego we found the most perfect pair of glasses – he’s after a pair of wooden/wood effect specs, and Tom Davies offers a finish which looks like wood. As Mr Davies is a London-based designer we decided to hunt him down. I’ve never visited  so many opticians – it’s a good thing I love looking at glasses (and trying funny ones on…). I brought my camera with me with the intention of taking lots of photographs but with the wet weather it just wasn’t happening. On Sunday I tried again, but the weather just wasn’t on my side. So essentially I have carried a fairly heavy (but beautiful) bag around with me all weekend! On the plus side we managed to squeeze in a wander around Borough Market and Whole Foods, where we picked up some vegan treats!

(Excuse my grubby mirror; this is the outfit that I wrapped myself up in to brave the wet and windy conditions.)

Trout and I woke up early on Sunday and spent the morning looking around (more!) opticians, and then he trooped off to his office and I walked to the Phoenix Gallery to have a browse around Art Junky; a craft fair packed full of independent makers, crafters, vintage clothing sellers, interior creations and cake! It was so nice to walk around and see so many beautiful things. I picked up this oh-so beautiful  brooch from a stall at the craft fair. It’s made by Ladybird Likes, and I wanted to snap up the entire collection! Sadly I hadn’t brought enough cash with me, so had to settle with this beauty – I have a feeling that once payday comes I will be purchasing a few more, though!

I came home via Infinity and picked up my favourite sandwich for lunch. For those that follow me on twitter will know how obsessed I am with this sandwich. It’s just so darn good! I had it with one of my favourite snacks; popchips!

After enjoying that brilliant lunch I had a whirlwind clean of the whole flat – how satisfying! I plopped down onto the sofa with a glass of pink fizz and promptly fell asleep for 2hrs. Whooops! Clearly all of the walking on Saturday and the cleaning on Sunday really took it out of me! I woke up and got started on dinner: roast. It’s just the most perfect dinner for a wet Sunday evening. We had a ‘turkey’ roast, roast potatoes and parsnips, sprouts, carrots, broccoli, mashed swede and stuffing. Covered in plenty of gravy!

How was your weekend? Did you manage to stay out of the rain?

I’ve definitely had enough of this weather- please no more rain! It was the last weekend at uni before the Christmas break so I was huddled inside working anyway. Your weekend looks much more fun though. Love Crafty fairs and markets of all kinds. Did you find the glasses in the end?

I partly wish I could have been curled up indoors, but it was nice being back in London for the day. We found the glasses in Brighton in the end – well, a company that can produce them x

Sounds like you had a lovely weekend despite this disgusting weather! I loveeee Borough market, they had so many yummy things for vegans as well as gluten free diets..I loved these flapjacks I got from there called Flaxjacks – amazinggg!
Everytime I see that sandwich I WANT IT!!!! I would definitely put up with the stomach pain for that tasty plate of deliciousness…
I need to make a proper Sunday roast soon..yours looks so good! What ‘turkey’ did you use?? xxx

They didn’t have anything vegan on Saturday, apart from oil and bread stalls! I remember tofu man being there last time, but no sign of him. We found a dairy and gluten-free cake stall but all but 2 had egg in. The ‘turkey’ roast was from Redwoods Cheatin’ range – it was really good!

I know its so frustrating with the weather, it makes it so much more difficult to enjoy just walking around. Glad you got some treats in Wholefoods!

I had my brolly, and it wasn’t super strong rain, so it could have been worse. I didn’t get time to go to Liberty, though! But we did get torte and a cupcake, so never mind haha.

It’s all about the roast on a Sunday! I’ve been without for a-a-a-ages but just got a diddy oven so I can get back on the roast wagon pronto. Yippee! Dang, you make me want Popchips now (& I’ve still never ever tried ’em).

You have to try Popchips!! My favourite flavour is the salt&vinegar, so good! Roast dinner is in my top 3 fav dinners!

This weather really is awful. Glad you had a great time!

I know we’re lucky compared to other parts of the UK, just hate having to get on with stuff when it’s raining – would much rather be tucked up at home!
