Life lately, around this flat

January 10, 2013

As many of you may know, I am currently Actively Seeking Employment and spend most of my day at home trying to not go completely mad. Here is a little peek into my daily routine:

I wake up early, get showered and dressed, come downstairs and make a cup of coffee. I drink my coffee whilst watching Breakfast News.

I spend almost the whole day on the sofa, looking for jobs. (I’m not on twitter all day, promise…!) Ras keeps me company, and plenty more cups of coffee are drunk. I listen to music quietly, in the background.

I can’t help but take little breaks to read a new book; it’s captivating and beautiful.

I pause for lunch, which lately has involved sesame seed bagels. They are so good! I fill them with houmous and salad, as well as plenty of sauerkraut. Or butter, marmite and a ton of salad and slices of gherkin!

For part of the afternoon I dedicate time to my blog; editing photographs, writing, drafting blog posts and answering emails. I also catch up with commenting on my favourite blogs, browse opportunity boards for briefs, internships and contribution opportunities.

In the afternoon I force myself to leave the house – even if only for thirty minutes – so that I can breath fresh air and clear my head. I walk around Brighton, go to a local shop to pick something up for dinner, or go down to the sea for some new inspiration.

In the evening I take a break from job-hunting – it’s like a job for me at the moment, and I need to separate some time to myself. Some evenings I will do an exercise class (I just started Dance Fit, which I love!) or enjoy some yoga at home, once a week I have the soup-run, and for the remaining days Trout and I will relax and eat dinner together, then watch a DVD or an episode of Breaking Bad snuggled up in bed. Lately we have been relaxing on the sofa with a glass of red wine with some beautiful music playing in the background, which is pretty much perfect.

So, that’s my life at the moment! How do you like to spend your time?

I have to applaud you lady for keeping so busy when you’re at home, I have this terrible tendancy to get preoccupied with anything other than what I am supposed to be doing… oooo look… a wall…….. no seriously, well done lady, keep with the job hunting – you will get there I promise! I’m currently working somewhere I hate with a passion and desperately trying to ‘get out’ and get the job I want, but it is hard! Give me love and hugs to Ras”! xxxxx

Thanks darling – I hate not having a job, so that’s my motivation haha! I know how hard it is to look for work while you’re still in work, but you’re in the best situation as I don’t think it looks great to have a gap in your CV like I will have. You’ll get there – just apply for a TON of jobs! xx

I’m definitely sending you positive vibes for your job hunt! At the moment I’m working quite a lot so relaxing when I can is really important to me, I’m really looking forward to buying a record player so me and James can just chill and listen to old records, I can’t wait :-)

good luck sweetie – I hope you find a job that makes you smile every day :-) I must try a new exercise class. I need a fitness re-vamp….maybe something with some boxing moves thrown in so I can punch out some post-pregnancy frustration! :-)

I’ve tried doing exercise which incorporated boxing moves but I just couldn’t ‘get it’!! I found it really hard to coordinate properly so gave up haha!

A cozy night on the couch + wine + Breaking Bad is easily one of my favorite combinations of things. Talk about a perfect evening. You go girl.

One of my New Year’s resolutions is to start cooking more at home. All your homemade meals always look so tasty! I’m not much of a chef, but do you have any tips on where to start?

Well – at the moment my tip would be to find a boyfriend who is an excellent cook!!

I suppose I got into cooking by finding a recipe which inspires me, and then not following it to the finer detail but keeping it in line with my own tastes; i.e. a little more spicy/creamy/healthier/nuttier etc. Enjoy the recipe, read blogs and cookery books which inspire you and make you WANT to cook, and make it your own. Enjoy! x

I love this post! Usually when I’m at home and left to my own devices, I get up when my stomach tells me it’s time for food then spend the rest of the day on the couch watching Game Of Thrones (or some other TV series on DVD) and making a bum-shaped dent in the sofa. Good on you for having the motivation to do so much more! x

Love this post too, good luck with your job-hunting! I’m very jealous of your productivity, when I’m at home I just watch Grey’s Anatomy hahahah! What’s the book you’re reading about (I know you’re not meant to judge books by their covers but I totally just did, and it looks good haha!)? xx

The book is so nice – it’s about a photographer who witnesses a girl being mugged, and their relationship that develops from the incident. I recommend it :)
