What have you been missing

January 21, 2013

Oh gosh, it seems like a long time since I’ve done a round-up of my days! I hope you guys enjoyed my week-long project with Alpro. I had such a great response on twitter, and all you guys leaving comments – I’m really glad I took part in the project. I loved experimenting with new recipes – it’s so easy to get into a routine, especially when time is short in the mornings. Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day, so it was lovely to spend a bit more time thinking of new ideas. It was fun featuring new recipes, too – I think I’m going to try to include more in the future, if that’s something you guys would like to see more of?

I’m still job-hunting, watching plenty of episodes of Peter Andre: My Life, and the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills/Orange County (don’t judge me, I know you’re jealous) and hanging out with Rasputin whilst waiting for 5pm to roll around and for Trout to come home.

In other news, aside from making and photographing and writing about brekka, we’ve been eating some tasty meals:

Mushroom risotto with plenty of garlic bread! This was amazing. I may have made too much garlic bread (but really, is there such a thing?)

Party tea preparations! I love party tea – it’s pretty much the best meal ever. Last weekend we cooked up a selection of chinese snacks, and laid out a little buffet of dips, breadsticks, a bread roll, pickled onions – yum!

Roast! Best meal EVER.

I’ve been wrapping up to brave the cold outside.

But when I’m indoors, I have to crack out the winter slippers!

I’ve been watching the snow from my window.

I really look forward to the weekends and having time to spend with Trout – especially when he makes our favourites; toasted sandwiches. I had garlic mayo with garlic sausage, red onion and vegan cheese, with a side salad and a handful of Popchips. This was so delicious, and I didn’t even care that it was garlic on garlic action.

I’ve been enjoying painted nails.

Last night Trout and I had a date night – it was so much fun! We went to visit the (kind of) newly opened Dukes at Komedia – it’s the second branch from the infamous Duke of York cinema, which is one of my favourite things about Brighton. Even though they aren’t independent any longer, the cinemas summarise everything that they should be about: people who love film, explore different genres, different languages, to be able to drink beer in the cinema (that’s the dream!) – and with a huge vegan menu! Amazing. We went for the hotdogs – there are three vegan options; an original ‘dog, the Mushroom Dog – with mushrooms and caramelised red onions, which I chose! – and Chica Chicarto, which Trout picked, and is topped with spicy sauce and guacamole. All of the ‘dogs come with a handful of tortilla chips and your choice of a side – we chose sweet potato wedges which were incredible! In terms of other vegan options, there are nachos, lasagne and three or so vegan sorbets all made by the brilliant and local Boho Gelato – I had my eye on a tub of Mulled Cider Apple Pie flavour, but alas I was too stuffed! We went to see Django Unchained which was just brilliant. Such a fantastic story, and I didn’t expect it to be so funny in parts! Most of the cinema were laughing out loud, it was brilliant. I love having little date nights, especially when they involve brilliant food!

So that’s what I’ve been up to in the past week or so! Earlier in the week I asked my lovely twitter followers if they would like to see a round-up of my favourite things to do in Brighton, and I had a great response! I’m putting together something now, in two parts, which I’m hoping to complete and publish in the next week or so. It’s hard to narrow all of my favourite things down to a concise day’s worth, or a long weekend. If there is anything in particular you would like to see, please do let me know either in a comment or an email!

What have you been up to in the past week?
Have you made any of the recipes from my Alpro Deskfest Challenge?

Going to the Duke of York Cinema is still on my Brighton list! We go to an indie cinema in Newcastle and its just the best :-)

I guess you don’t really think about going to the cinema when you’re visiting somewhere – if you’re here for a week again, be sure to check it out!

I used to go to an indie cinema when I lived in Leeds and loved it. Now our only cinema is a cine world and a fourty minute drive away! Those vegan hot dogs sound yum, as well as the rest of your food!

Oh no! I would miss having a cinema nearby – when I lived at home my nearest was an Odeon 20 mins drive away, but I love having this on our doorstep!

Garlic bread? Jealous. You can never have too much garlic bread.

That’s what I thought! Though we didn’t finish it, so yeah I think I made too much.

You’ve really got me interested in trying more vegan dishes. For someone who’s never even been vegetarian for a day, it’s just always seemed like too much work. *But* I live in an area where there are so many options for vegan foodies. I’ll keep you posted on my new goal ;)
