Life lately, with friends and good food

May 24, 2013

Last Thursday I came home from the soup-run and Trout said, “you know sometimes I make dinner and you say, that’s a big portion. and I say, ‘yeah, sorry, I made a lot of food’?” “yeah…” “tonight’s one of those times.”
“ok.”

But it was a lot of salad, so that can’t be too bad, right?

Aside from eating a lot of salad, I’ve also been wearing clothes, photographing old restaurants and meeting friends. Oh, and trying to watch more films. But that’s a blog post for another day.

I’ve been hanging out with some boats on the beach, and am completely in love with Sultan’s Delights goodies. Her vegan baklava is absolutely incredible, and I ate it too quickly to take a photo!

I also got back into the swing of things and took part in the UK Vegan Food Swap again! I haven’t swapped for around six months and forgot just how fun it was. Here are the goodies that I was sent – the dark chocolate covered cacao nibs were incredible! The small box called ‘Hit’ contains fruity, chewy tic-tacs and were really good! Plus look at the note – it’s in the shape of a squash!

And here are the goodies that I sent my swapping partner. I pretty much doubled up everything and bought the same for myself… here’s hoping they liked my choices!

On Tuesday I met the beautiful Laura for lunch at VBites. It was so lovely to catch up – even though this was only the second time we had met in real-life, we’ve known each other for maybe a couple of years online and it feels like longer!

After  Trout picked up an incredible hickory smoked burger when VBites first opened, I had been itching to try something from there myself. I went for the RLT, thinking it was a sarnie, but when it arrived it was more like an open sandwich. Pretty tasty, but nothing special. I really need to go back and try the hickory burger, but was afraid of needing a post-lunch snooze! Thankfully Laura tried it, so at least one of us got to taste that smoky sweetness. And the sweet potato fries were delish!

So that’s what I’ve been up to lately! I’m drying to go back to VBites and give that hickory burger a try, and I’m craving vegan baklava like crazy. Again it’s Friday and again I have no idea how this has happened!! I’m looking forward to the long weekend and really hoping that the sunshine comes to join us as we have some outdoor plans that just won’t go with rain! Tomorrow is the second meeting of the Extreme Film Society and I have a feeling that the operative word is extreme this week. Last week we eased ourselves in with a couple of horror movies and a… strange film. Very strange. That was probably only a taster for what’s to come, though!

How have the past few weeks been for you? Any plans for the Bank Holiday weekend?

I made vegan baklava last weekend with my boyfriend and it was amazing and quite straight forward to do. We are really craving it now (so addictive) and thinking about making it again this weekend as it didn’t last long as too delicious! Will have to check out Sultan’s Delights!

If you’re in Brighton you must check her out! She usually sells at the Wednesday market and Street Diner on a Friday. This Friday is an all-vegan menu which I’m so excited about!

It was so lovely to see you again, and it certainly does feel like we’ve known each other longer! That photograph of the burger has reminded me how delicious it was, I will definitely be back for another one on my next trip :-) Hope you have a lovely weekend planned xxx

Okay, that sail boat picture is gorgeous! Your food looks delish!

That photo of the sailboats actually makes me feel peaceful! There’s just something about boats at sea that make me feel at harmony. And why is it every time I read your blog I get a hankering for salad? You’re magical, you.
