The lusty month of May

May 31, 2013

OK, so I’m not sure where May went – but it must have gone somewhere! This is kind of the reason that I put together these monthly round-ups. Firstly so that I can be thankful for all of the things that I’ve done, and secondly so that I don’t forget any of those details. It’s also part of the reason why I love blogging so much; taking the time to be present and really think about everyday. Yes, it can sometimes be spent looking through a camera lens rather than being present – but in that moment I know that it’s important enough to capture. So here are the things that I loved about May.

I definitely got back to nature. I had a couple of trips to Devil’s Dyke, spent some quality time on the beach with the boats, and fell in love with pink blossom.

I caught up with the lovely Laura, and we had a fab lunch at VBites! Definitely a highlight of the month.

I had dreams of a trip to London, which will hopefully happen in June.

I hung out with this ridiculous furry face.

And the main thing that really made my month was being asked by Alpro to cover the Fringe Festival, and to take part in their #MugShotMoments campaign. It was so lovely to see a few shows and some comedy that I probably wouldn’t have gone to see otherwise – and it was filled with plenty of Alproccinos which made it even better! In fact, that whole weekend was pretty darn good!

This month I have been indulging in coffee. I used to drink so many coffees in sweet cafes, but now I have been happy with making some good old instant at home, cracking out my coffee machine or enjoying cafetieres at work. Lately I have remembered just how lovely and indulgent it is to take time out in a coffee shop – especially my favourite coffee shop – and relax, read the papers, switch off and have a creamy cappuccino.

I got back into What I Ate Wednesday – and I’m so glad that I did! I’ve put together a couple so far, and you can find them here and here.

I took part in the UK Vegan Food Swap again, for the first time in around six months – it’s so much fun! It’s amazing how many things you just never knew about – even being vegan for eight years there are still surprises!

I’ve been taking quite a lot of photos through work for clients which I’m really enjoying. I’m still learning so much about  photography, but this a great way to practice. It’s brilliant to get out of the office and on location, or pop round to a local restaurant to photograph their dishes and listen to ghost stories in old buildings.

We also set up the Extreme Film Society which I am in love with! Watching films, especially horror films, is something that I love. I’ve mentioned before that I really want to start watching more movies – I’m putting together a blog post at the moment on that, too. I never really get to watch horror movies because Trout doesn’t like them – so it’s great to hang out with friends and scream at scary things! Plus I’ll take any excuse to eat popcorn. Especially when it’s sweet&salty.

> Take more photographs of Trout. {if he’ll let me}
There is a distinct lack of his face around these parts, and I’d love for him to feature a little more. and maybe some of myself, but we’ll see how that goes…

> Take that trip to London. {It’s well overdue}
Yes it costs a little bit of money to get there, and yes you have to eat out twice while you’re there, and yes you have to visit Monki and Whole Foods and & other stories and Ms Cupcake and yes you have to buy plenty of coffee – but it’s so darn worth it.

> Watch more movies. {Have I mentioned that?}
And I’m writing a blog post on that subject, too. I think I mentioned that, though?

> Write more.
Not just blog writing (though that would be nice!) but personal writing, too.

> Read more.
I bought Jay Rayner’s new book at the weekend, and I am squeezing in as much as I can in my lunch break. I really should read in the evenings more, too.

So that was my May! How was yours? What are your hopes for June?

    Congratulations on getting to 400 blog posts!! Such a good achievement.
    Your posts always make me hungry, I need to learn to stop reading them first thing in the morning :)

    Aww our lunch date was a highlight of May for me too! I agree on how nice it is to do these posts, somehow time slips past us so quickly we miss all the things we enjoy and I love blogging for being able to look back :-)

      I’m always surprised at just how much I manage to fit into a month, and yet don’t even realise it!

    May went by so fast! I almost forgot that today was the last day. It’s insane!
