British Street Food Awards | Brighton’s Best

June 6, 2014

You might remember a little while ago when I mentioned I was asked to be a judge for the Brighton heats of the British Street Food Awards. I’ve been tasting my way around the (vegan) offerings at Street Diner trying to finalise my favourites – which I can tell you has been tricky! I’ve got there eventually though, and here are my top three picks, in no particular order:

Sultan’s Delights

You might have seen Oz pop up every now and again over here on the blog – her food is just fantastic. Everything tastes so fresh, thanks to plenty of fresh herbs and ingredients, and her menu is always so well thought out. Everything is vegetarian, with plenty of vegan offerings.

You can find Oz on Facebook and Twitter.

Ahimsa

Ahimsa make amazing Indian street food, with the choice of a lunchbox or a variety of snacks. They make one of my favourite foods – chaat. I could eat it by the bowlful! There’s nothing better when it’s fresh. I’d never tried dhokla before – it was really good. Made up of chickpeas it has a spongey texture – sounds strange, tasted brilliant. Everything’s vegetarian with loads of vegan options.

You can find Ahimsa on Facebook and Twitter.

Honeycomb Cakes

Finally, I had to go for something sweet. Just look at the size of those cakes! That’s a real slice ;) I think that they only have one vegan option on their stall, but you can’t knock the look of their non-vegan offerings.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Look. At. The. SIZE.

They sell out pretty darn quickly, too. The next time I visited them they had completely sold out of vegan goodies – and that was by 1.30pm. So make sure you get down there early, cake fiends!

You can find Honeycomb Cakes on Facebook and Twitter.

The final decision is down to the general public, so make sure you let the country know just how wonderful street food is – especially the street food offerings that you can find in Brighton! Download the app here: http://britishstreetfood.co.uk/app/ and vote to your heart’s content. These are just my three favourites – I’m sure you all have yours. Even if you haven’t made it down to Street Diner, vote for who you think would be your favourite!

Have you tried any of the stalls at Street Diner?

Oh I didn’t realise it was hard to find! I’ll figure out a way of getting it to you… I could probably post it? Should be OK?
