Photos of the Week #30

July 29, 2014

WEEK 30 OF 52

Last week I spent as much time as possible outdoors – summer days are few and far between in the UK, so I cherish them as much as possible! Well, I was enjoying them until yesterday, when the rain and the floods came. I can’t believe the damage it caused, flooding a number of local stations, plus so many houses and roads. It’s pretty awful.//

As I mentioned in my last post, we finally got that BBQ! We headed to a friend’s house for the day, and everything tasted so good – guacamole is one of my true love foods, there’s nothing better than some freshly made guac.//

Trout’s mostly been hanging out with cats. Our friend’s kitten, Luna – such a cutey! – ventured into the garden for the first time, which was fun. She spent so much time exploring that she was absolutely pooped by the afternoon!// Ras and marmite. It’s a love affair no-one can understand.//

Here’s what my feet have been up to! Mainly spending time on the beach, preparing to head to the beach, and wearing sandals.// Speaking of the beach, I’ve been loving some evening swims. Watching the sunset while you’re in the water is just amazing.//

And finally, here’s what I’ve been eating. After an evening swim we headed up Preston Street and found this awesome Lebanese restaurant. It was really veggie/vegan focused, and we dove straight into this amazing mezze. It was so good we hardly said a word to each other, we were too busy stuffing our faces. We had falafel, kibbeh, hummus, babaganoush, roasted potatoes, salad and a couple of soured cabbage pastries. I recommend trying this place! It’s near the top of the road, on the left.//

Here are a few more things I’ve been enjoying; half of my favourite sandwich (sausage, rocket, mayo and caramelised onion) and half of Trout’s favourite sandwich (a BLT). Both are from Infinity.// Quesadillas! Whenever we make a Daiya order we always cook them. Yum!//

Sweet things; raw chocolate pie with pink Himalayan salt. It’s so good! I love the little pink crystals of salt, they kind of pop in your mouth when you bite into the bar.// Chocolate chip cookies. I use Ms Cupcake’s recipe and it’s the best I’ve ever tried.//

A follower on Twitter asked if I had ever put together a guide to the basics in terms of vegan products. I haven’t, but am thinking of putting one together. If this is something you would find useful, are there any specific ‘replacement’ products you’re keen to find out? Let me know in the comments section below.// In case you missed them, last week I blogged about the week before’s Photos of the Week #29, the things I love to do when I’m home alone and I put together a guide to vegan BBQs.//I hope everyone’s having a great week so far!//

I’ve always wanted to try a lebanese place, there was one in Newcastle but it shut down. I hadn’t realised the floods had been so bad!

Yeah they were really bad :/ partly due to roofs etc not being able to take the weight of so much rain in such a short amount of time. I love Lebanese food – pretty much the best food to eat out!
